Stainless Steel FastenersStainless steel fasteners are usually consisting of a
steel and chromium alloy. By creating a thin coating of chromium oxide on the
surface of the metal, the chromium in the alloy shields the steel from
corrosion. The steel is protected from the atmosphere by this barrier, which
keeps the steel from rusting. There are several grades of stainless-steel
fasteners available, each with varying amounts of chromium and molybdenum. The
two most popular grades are 316, which has 16% chromium, 10% molybdenum, and 2%
nickel, and 18/8, which has 18% chromium and 8% molybdenum. Plumbing and
construction are just two examples of the many uses for which these are
perfect. |
